Dharma Healing Arts has moved to its new home in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. The space was designed by the renowned Frederic Schwartz Architects. It has a refreshingly minimalist eco-modern feel, with spacious and tranquil treatment rooms, a Morrocan tiled steam room and shower as well as a private Japanese onsen (soaking tub) room. The focus of the center will remain massage therapy as a means of establishing and maintaining a healthy lifestyle in a hectic world.

Dharma will soon be offering more innovative as well as traditionally rooted ancient therapies to the menu of services, with the addition of bodywork specialties that will enhance massage treatments and help bring you closer to your wellness goals. These specialties include Rolfing, Alexander Technique, Zero Balancing, Thai bodywork, Ayurvedic massage, and Zen Shiatsu.

About Lauren

Lauren Sweeney-Hampel is the owner of Dharma and is a NYS licensed massage therapist and a graduate of Swedish Institute. She is nationally certified by NCBTMB, a member of the American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA), The Society for Integrative Oncology (SIO), and takes part in continuing education on a regular basis to stay skilled and knowledgable in her field. Having enjoyed over ten years as a massage therapist, Lauren feels fortunate to have worked with many interesting people from all walks of life in the positive context of holistic health and healing. Lauren is certified in Prenatal massage as well as Medical Massage for the Cancer Patient through Memorial Sloan-Kettering. She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and their children, Berrie and Bennett.

What To Expect

Please arrive at least ten minutes early to your first appointment. A comprehensive intake occurs before your first session, during which you will be asked to fill out forms relating to your health history and address your current concerns. Discussions with your therapist about how you are feeling and your current lifestyle aid in the treatment process. Please inform your therapist of any injuries, illnesses, or other concerns prior to every massage session.

Your massage takes place in a private & tranquil enviroment. Herbal teas and spring water are available before and after your session. In cooler months, the massage table is heated to your comfort level. Highest quality organic and wildcrafted ingredients compose the oils, lotions or creams that are used. At all times you will be draped appropriately, with only the areas being massaged exposed. Your modesty is completely respected. You are encouraged to communicate with your therapist regarding pressure used and any other needs or concerns you may have during your treatment to facilitate an appropriate level of comfort, relaxation, and treatment effectiveness.
